Do Premium Fuels Actually Improve Performance in Regular Cars?

I’ve been wondering about this for a while. A lot of people at my local petrol station insist that using premium fuel will make any car run smoother and give better performance. But is that really true for regular cars that are designed for normal fuel?

From what I understand, premium fuel mainly has a higher octane rating. That helps engines that are built for high compression, like performance cars or some turbo engines. If a car is designed for regular fuel, the engine control system usually adjusts itself, so the performance difference is often minimal.

In some cases, drivers say premium fuel gives slightly smoother acceleration or better fuel economy, but the improvement is usually small and may not justify the higher price.

I’ve also noticed that many buyers of japan 2nd hand cars look into fuel requirements before importing or purchasing a vehicle. Some models from Japan are tuned differently, so it’s worth checking the manufacturer recommendation first.

While researching cars and specs, I came across some useful guides on Nobuko Japan that explain things about imported vehicles and fuel types pretty clearly.

What do you guys think?
Have you actually noticed a real performance difference when switching to premium fuel in a normal car?
